SI Evaluation Process

SI Evaluation Process.

SI joint pain is an underdiagnosed condition often mistaken for Lumbar disorders which can lead to ineffective treatment. See one of our specialists to determine the source of your pain and develop a comprehensive treatment plan to get on the road to recovery.

Evaluation

Evaluation

You will be seen initially by one of our providers to establish your diagnosis. Our providers are experts in establishing the cause of your pain whether it be SI dysfunction, Lumbar issue or even hip issue. Whether it be an initial evaluation or from a previous encounter from another specialist we can help figure out where the pain is coming from. Our facilities have all the necessary equipment to help aid in the diagnosis. If SI dysfunction is the leading diagnosis we will develop a comprehensive treatment plan customized to your problem.

Diagnostics

Diagnostics

In order to confirm the diagnosis of SI joint dysfunction we will recommend the following:

1. Initial diagnostic SI injection with a short acting anesthetic agent
2. Second diagnostic SI injection
3. Third Therapeutic Steroid injection

If the first injection gives greater than 80% relief for apx. 8 hours then we will order SI directed Physical Therapy 12 visits. This is not only required by insurance companies but may result in positive relief avoiding surgery.

If you have significant relief for a short period of time with the injections and PT then there are two options:

1. Thermal ablation of the SI directed nerves (RFA); This can be done at our facilities as an outpatient and takes literally minutes to do with no recovery period. It often can alleviate some of the pain but lasts apx 1 month to a year due to regeneration of the nerves.
2. Robotic SI fusion. This is done as an outpatient at our facility, click here for more information.
